AC/DC's ANGUS YOUNG Voted #1 'Rock Icon'

March 21, 2007

According to Sony BMG, U.K. music magazine Kerrang! has tallied up the hardest, most legendary rockers of this century and crowned AC/DC's Angus Young as the top "Rock Icon," beating some of the biggest names in the business. Young was also awarded the Kerrang! "Legend" award last August after the band's classic albums "Highway to Hell" and "The Razor's Edge" broke their previous sales records. Young has outshone fellow nominees like NIRVANA's Kurt Cobain, GREEN DAY's Billie Joe Armstrong, METALLICA's James Hetfield, PANTERA's "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, JUDAS PRIEST's Rob Halford, FOO FIGHTERS' Dave Grohl and EVANESCENCE's Amy Lee for the honor. This is the second Kerrang! gong for Young, who was presented last August with the "Legend" award at the 13th annual Kerrang! Awards after a bonza year of AC/DC album sales in the U.S. with their classic 1979 album "Highway to Hell" certified septuple platinum sales and 1990's "The Razor's Edge" surpassing the five-million mark. In 2005, AC/DC's epic album "Back In Black" also tied as the fifth best-selling album in the U.S. of all time.
