AC/DC's BRIAN JOHNSON 'Overwhelmed' By Success Of 'Black Ice' CD

October 29, 2008

AC/DC singer Brian Johnson spoke to The Canadian Press earlier today (Wednesday, October 29) about the mginificent success of the band's new album, "Black Ice", which is available in the United States only at Wal-Mart and through the group's web site.

"It's overwhelming, and quite hard to take in," he said. "Even an old dog like me has a few more surprises in life, I guess," he said, chuckling.

In making Wal-Mart the only retailer for their album, AC/DC joined the likes of the EAGLES and JOURNEY, who have all had strong success.

"It was a win-win situation, and they decided to make it into a big thing with AC/DC merchandise and good deals with the other albums with the catalogue," Johnson said. "This has been a wonderful thing."

"Black Ice" is Wal-Mart's fastest-selling album of 2008, according to figures released on Tuesday (October 28). The disc, which is being sold exclusively through Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and ACDC.com, has moved more than 780,000 copies since arriving on Monday, October 20. That also locks up the No. 1 spot on this week's Billboard album chart, which comes out today (October 29) and gives the veteran Australian rockers the first chart-topping album of their 30-plus year career. Wal-Mart's specially branded AC/DC stores are also seeing an uptick in sales of T-shirts, other apparel, DVDs and video games.

Special "pop-up" AC/DC stores are open through January 9 in New York City and Los Angeles, where Wal-Mart does not have stores.

"Black Ice" also topped the sales charts in 29 other countries this week, including the U.K., Germany, Canada, France, Argentina, Japan, Australia, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland and more.
