AC/DC's 'Highway To Hell' Wins 'Most Played Australian Work Overseas' Award

According to Gibson.com, AC/DC won the "Most Played Australian Work Overseas" award with the legendary song "Highway To Hell" at the annual APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) awards, which were held earlier today (June 23) in Melbourne, Australia.

The Australasian Performing Right Association collects and distributes licence fees for the public performance and communication (including broadcast) of its members' musical works. Public performances of music include music used in pubs, clubs, fitness centres, shops, cinemas, festivals, whether performed live, on CDs or played on the radio or television. Communication of music covers music used for music on hold, music accessed over the internet or used by television or radio broadcasters.

"Highway To Hell" — which appears on the 1979 album of the same name — was written by Bon Scott, Angus Young and Malcolm Young while the main guitar riff was created by Malcolm Young. According to Wikipedia, the song and album's title supposedly came after a reporter asked bandmembers if they could describe what life was like being constantly on tour. Angus replied that it was "a fucking highway to hell."
