AC/DC, FOO FIGHTERS Make FORBES Magazine's List Of The Highest-Paid Celebrities
July 12, 2016Legendary hard rockers AC/DC have made Forbes magazine's annual list of top-paid celebrities, pulling in a reported $67.5 million over the past year.
The band's take from June 2015 to June 2016 earned them a No. 17 ranking.
FOO FIGHTERS, who finished an intense, nearly three-year period of activity at the end of 2015, earned $48.5 million to come in at No. 45.
Other rock acts that made the list included THE ROLLING STONES at No. 18, U2 at No. 30 and MUSE at No. 44.
Musicians were a heavy factor in the list, with Taylor Swift topping the field with an estimated $170 million. Adele came in at No. 9 with $80.5 million.
Forbes magazine editor Zack O'Malley Greenberg said that live entertainment continued to be a major source of revenue.
"From soccer games in Spain to concerts in China, fans are willing to shell out to see big names — and this is driving the celebrity economy to ever greater heights," he said in a statement.
The totals were compiled with the help of "numbers from Nielsen, Pollstar, Box Office Mojo, Songkick and IMDB, as well as interviews with industry insiders and many of the stars themselves," Forbes said. "The result is the definitive index of who’s making what in the global business of fame… Fees for agents, managers and lawyers are not deducted."
AC/DC previously made concert trade publication Pollstar year-end list for 2015's tours with a $180 million gross, which the band amassed despite an average ticket price just under $78.
The rescheduled dates of AC/DC's North American tour — which will be the band's first concerts here with Axl Rose on lead vocals — will kick off in Greensboro, North Carolina on August 27, just five days after Rose completes his summer stadium run with GUNS N' ROSES.
