AEROSMITH Guitarist Interviewed On Peru's '13 Hrs.' (Video)

October 29, 2011

AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry was recently interviewed for the "13 Hrs." show on Peru's Canal N. Perry discussed the setlist and requests made by fans during AEROSMITH's current South American tour. You can now watch the report below.

AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler spoke with the "Today" show's Matt Lauer on Thursday morning (October 27),seeking to reassure fans that his face-smashing fall in the shower in his Paraguay hotel room on Tuesday (October 25) was an accident and not the result of Tyler using drugs again. Tyler, speaking via phone from the band's next tour stop in Argentina, told Lauer, "Being in the program, it's something we have to expect. I went public with my problems only to address them head on. You know, people thinking that is natural and normal."

Tyler added that it "bothers me a little" that the public might automatically assume he fell off the wagon, but admitted, "It's something I have to deal with the rest of my life."

The singer, who has been mostly clean since the mid-Eighties but who did check into rehab in late 2009 to deal with a painkiller addiction, said that the fact that he was on the phone with Lauer was proof that he wasn't strung out again.

He explained, "We flew last night from Paraguay after that incident and we're in Argentina for two hours . . . anyone who knows anyone who uses substances wouldn't be up at this hour having a talk with Matt Lauer and the rest of America." He insisted to Lauer that he was clean and sober.

Tyler became dizzy due to gastrointestinal problems and slipped in the shower in his hotel room in the city of Asuncion, just hours before the band was scheduled to perform, cutting his face and knocking out two teeth.

The dentist who treated the 63-year-old singer told local media that Tyler had to get two dental implants and was "friendly and humble."

AEROSMITH rescheduled the concert for the next night (Wednesday, October 26) as the band continued its South American jaunt. Tyler told Lauer, "Short of having my legs taken off, people are going to expect me on stage no matter what . . . Not only did I break my face, but we broke a house record, so life is beautiful, Matt."
