ALICE COOPER's Biggest Fanatic Broke Leg Trying To See Rocker In '78

August 23, 2004

Dean Pritchard of The Winnipeg Sun reports: ALICE COOPER would have a pretty tough time finding a fan who has gone to greater lengths — or suffered greater pain — to see one of his concerts than Bruce Klump. Klump was 13 years old in 1978 when he fell off the side of the Winnipeg Arena trying to sneak into the shock rocker's concert and broke his leg.

"I wanted to see him because I heard his show was wild," said Klump, now 40.

"My mom didn't want me to go, so I snuck out of the house. We didn't have any money so we tried to get in for free."

Klump climbed 19.5 metres (65 feet) up a drain pipe when it started to give way and he fell four storeys to a sub-roof below.

Klump lay on the roof for two hours before firefighters were able to lower him to the ground on a stretcher.

"I could hear the concert going on and the vibrations going through," he recalled. Read more.
