ALICE IN CHAINS Members To Attend MIKE STARR Memorial

March 20, 2011

According to TMZ.com, the family and friends of Mike Starr have planned an "awesome water fountain tribute show" for the former ALICE IN CHAINS bassist at Seattle's Space Needle.

Mike's sister, Melinda Starr, tells TMZ.com that everyone is gathering around International Fountain — next to the Space Needle — where a water show is usually set to classical music, but for today's memorial it'll be rocking to ALICE IN CHAINS tunes.

Melinda says some of Mike's old ALICE IN CHAINS banmates will also be at the tribute — which is open to the public and begins at 4:00 p.m.

As previously reported, Starr's funeral has reportedly been put on hold for a few more weeks. The medical examiner has told the family that more time is needed to perform additional tests on Starr's body, according to TMZ.com. The 44-year-old musician and onetime "Celebrity Rehab" cast member was found dead in a Salt Lake City house on March 8 by friend and current bandmate, former DAYS OF THE NEW frontman Travis Meeks.

There's no word on what tests the medical examiner needs to conduct. Friends said that Starr was taking methadone to kick a longtime drug habit and also taking an anti-anxiety medication at the same time.

He was arrested and briefly jailed for drug possession in Salt Lake City last month, after police there pulled over the van he was traveling in. Starr was found in possession of 12 pills without a prescription.

Mike's family intends to hold both a private and public funeral service once Starr's body is released to them.
