ALL THAT REMAINS Singer Blasts Media Hoopla Over CAITLYN JENNER
June 4, 2015According to The Pulse Of Radio, ALL THAT REMAINS singer Phil Labonte has blasted all the attention focused on former athlete Bruce Jenner's gender transition into Caitlyn Jenner, which got massive coverage this week when the "new" Jenner appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine. Labonte did not comment directly on Jenner's decision to become a woman, but instead seemed exasperated with the amount of media attention to her change as well as ESPN's decision to give her the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY Awards next month.
Labonte wrote on Facebook, "JESUS FUCK SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT JENNER. Every one of you self righteous fuckers who are talking about how brave she is, shut it. And everyone of you fuckers who are bitching cause the PC feminized world gave her an award for courage over someone who REALLY deserved it, all of you. FUCK OFF. Bullshit awards from some random group are worthless. The act was the important part. So let Jenner wait in line for the ladies room in peace, let the PC people talk about how great of human she is, and most importantly shut the fuck up about it. It's literally not this big of a deal."
Labonte later returned to Facebook with "an addendum" to his previous post, linking to the story of a transgendered porn star named Bailey Jay, who he said had "straight up conviction and real courage."
Labonte has been critical before of people focusing on things he deems not important, even coming down on his own fans. "People get so worked up about such inconsequential things, you know what I mean?" he said. "People getting beheaded in the Middle East, that's a consequential thing. Whether or not our record is heavy enough, you know, (by) some kid's standard that has a blog, who cares."
Labonte made headlines earlier in the year when he addressed his use of a homophobic slur nearly a decade ago in an interview with Revolver magazine and suggesting that the obstacles faced by the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender (LGBT) community do not equal those experienced by the black community.
Labonte is currently on tour in Europe with ALL THAT REMAINS in support of the band's seventh studio album, "The Order Of Things".
