ALL THAT REMAINS Singer PHIL LABONTE: 'I'm A Huge TAYLOR SWIFT Fan'
October 15, 2015Janna of the 97.9 WGRD radio station recently conducted an interview with ALL THAT REMAINS singer Phil Labonte. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On the importance of genres in music:
"It doesn't really matter if your songs are 'this' enough or 'that' enough except for 'are they good?' You can take a song that's in… and it happens all the time in R&B and with country. You can take a country song that some dude in Nashville wrote and some country artist puts it up and it'll go to the top of the charts on the country charts. And then, six months later, an R&B person will go ahead and perform the song and it'll go to the top of the charts on the R&B charts, because the song's good. It doesn't matter that it's in an R&B style or in a country style, and I think that holds true for any type of genre that you wanna play a song in. That's why there's that band… There's a band called I PREVAIL that covered [Taylor Swift's] 'Blank Space', and it came out pretty cool, because it's a good song."
On his appreciation for pop music:
"I'm a big good-song fan. And, from my perspective, good songs tend to be pop songs, whether they're pop-country or dance songs or whatever. They're good songs for a reason. People like 'em for a reason. I'm a huge Taylor Swift fan. I just really dig well-crafted, short songs. I'm not into big, long, drawn-out, self-indulgent songs. And I'm not knocking that kind of stuff, and I'm not knocking people that like it, but just for me personally, I like something that gets to the point and kind of grabs you."
ALL THAT REMAINS recently parted ways with bassist Jeanne Sagan and replaced her with Aaron Patrick.
ALL THAT REMAINS is co-headlining the "HardDrive Live Fallout" tour this fall with WE CAME AS ROMANS. The trek kicked off on October 14 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and will run through November 7.
