ALL THAT REMAINS To Film 'This Calling' Video Next Week

May 26, 2006

ALL THAT REMAINS, the Massachusetts-based act featuring former SHADOWS FALL vocalist Philip Labonte, will hit the Jersey shore (the now-abandoned Hancock Naval Base in Sandy Hook) on Tuesday, May 30 to film the video for "This Calling", from their forthcoming album "The Fall of Ideals", with director Frankie Nasso (MUDVAYNE, HATEBREED) of Raging Nation Films.

The track "This Calling" resonates feelings of dark temptations and guilty pleasures plaguing one's thoughts. The "calling" itself represents the voice of hope breaking free from this tainted and twisted state of mind. Though it is distant and faint, the calling can still be heard and provide a way out; it is the proverbial light at the end of a dark, dismal tunnel. Some of the band performance will be shot in dimly lit, claustrophobic spaces with decaying brick facades with surreal streams of golden light, which presumably trickle in through the cracks of the tattered building, those being the only source of light on the band. These small slivers of warmth highlight important features: they fall across guitar strings, bounce off the cymbals, and illuminate the band members' faces as they are constantly shifting between the sheer darkness and finding the light; not only adding dimension to the video, but representing the idea of hope in this cold, dark space. Frankie Nasso, known for his jarring camerawork with frames deliberately popping in and out of focus, will highlight the concept to find the band in the darkness, and eventually crashing in unison into the light. The visuals during this video will, at some points, "wander" through the walls, in a cross-sectioned view of the building, giving the illusion that is has seamlessly passed to the outside world, capturing the true meaning of the song as sung in the chorus, "This calling, will see me through." This location will provide the positive reinforcement that sums up the overall message of the piece. At this point, the sun has fully risen and the ships that once looked dark and menacing now look defenseless and pitiful, like conquered beasts amongst the triumphant band members. This will be the bright daylight scene that we are introduced to when the camera passes "through" the walls in the interior space.
