AMEN Frontman To Complete New Album While In Rehab
August 20, 2008Casey Chaos, the enigmatic, energetic, and perennially self-destructive front man for Los Angeles "punk" band AMEN, plans to finish the band's new album from Hollywood's Wonderland rehabilitation center.
After two recent brushes with death and subsequent hospitalization due to his persistent heart and lung problems, Chaos has decided to make much-needed and overdue changes to his lifestyle. The first step of this undertaking has been checking himself into the Wonderland Center.
For over a decade, Chaos has been prescribed various meds for pain and treatment of his various health issues. These, combined with grueling touring schedules and heavy drinking while on the road, have worn on Chaos and caused his health and state of mind to deteriorate further.
Chaos plans to document his treatment and recovery by recording and putting the finishing touches on the as-yet-untitled forthcoming AMEN album, as well as the album's artwork.
"We're an unsigned band at this point, so we're not under pressure from any labels," Chaos explains, "I've been able to take my time making this album right, and right now is the best time for me to be working… I want to inspire others to want to take this step. I don't want to be one of those drugged-out rock star junkies you see playing '70s retro music."
The duration of Chaos' stay at Wonderland is unknown at this time.
Video footage of AMEN's Casey Chaos (vocals, guitar) and GODSMACK/ANOTHER ANIMAL's Shannon Larkin (drums; also ex-AMEN) in the studio recording the new AMEN album can be viewed below.
AMEN's last collection of new studio recordings, "Death Before Musick", was released in 2004 through EatUrMusic — a Columbia Records imprint owned by SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian.
Malakian — who makes a cameo appearance in AMEN's "California's Bleeding" video — met AMEN singer Casey Chaos when both bands played at Australia's Big Day Out festival in 2002 and the guitarist made AMEN his first signing.
