ANNIHILATOR Part Ways With Drummer, Announce Replacement
October 10, 2003Canadian thrash metal veterans ANNIHILATOR have parted ways with drummer Randy Black (PRIMAL FEAR) and have rejoined forces with former skinsman Mike Mangini (EXTREME, STEVE VAI).
"Despite having guaranteed the band that he would be performing on their upcoming new release, and being scheduled to record drum tracks in 5 weeks, last-minute 'requests' made it impossible to continue a positive working relationship [with Randy]," the group explain in an official statement.
Mangini will track the drums for the forthcoming ANNIHILATOR album at a Boston studio beginning in six weeks.
Says ANNIHILATOR leader Jeff Waters: "As most drummers know, Mike is one of the best in the business and it is an honor for me to work with a pro like him. He is going to help set a new standard for ANNIHILATOR and metal drumming. A tall order but one Mangini is eager to and able to achieve."
With respect to the new CD, Waters states, "Although the last five ANNIHILATOR studio CDs have all had some good material on them, I made a promise to myself and the new label that I will deliver something far beyond what I have been doing for the last 10 years. And I will."
The as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2002's "Waking The Fury" will be released in March/April 2004 through Germany's AFM Records.
