ANNIHILATOR's WATERS Says NEVERMORE's LOOMIS Misunderstood His Comments

July 19, 2005

ANNIHILATOR mainman Jeff Waters has responded to NEVERMORE guitarist Jeff Loomis' comment that Waters "opens his mouth up a little too much" and deserves to have his ass kicked for claiming that he is one of the fastest guitar players in the world.

Asked by Metal Sludge as part of their regularly weekly "20 Questions With…" feature what single rock star really needs to be punched in the mouth, Loomis said, "Jeff Waters from ANNIHILATOR" before elaborating, "At one point on Blabbermouth he said he was one of the fastest guitar players in the world and I just find it really hard to believe that. If he was willing to show people through a contest, ah, I just don't believe he's the fastest. There are flamenco guitar players that are faster than he is. Not that he's a bad guy or anything. I just think he opens his mouth up a little too much."

Later in the same interview, when asked "Out of all the band you've toured with, who was the coolest, and who were the biggest dicks?", Loomis responded, "The biggest dicks were ANNIHILATOR. There was a cat in that band, a guitar player, that just bothered the piss out of the whole band. So we were glad to get off that tour."

In a posting to ANNIHILATOR's official forum, Waters addressed Loomis' remarks, stating, "Strange, I toured with NEVERMORE for a month, met the guy, got along with him great.

"I guess he didnt bother to read my statement, not that this justifies saying violent things to nice people! The statement I said, way back, was to do with rhythm guitar picking; not soloing and not and, as far as I know, flamenco guitaring uses the fingers; not a pick! . . My statement was specifically to do with 'metal rhtyhm guitar picking speed.' Loomis just didnt 'get it,' while most other fans did!

"Regardless, some people don't think before they say things.

"Now I doubt that anyone out there would punch me in the mouth because of Loomis' silly comments (what single rock star needs to be punched in the mouth = Jeff Waters),but I really thought we musicians had learned from what happened to Dime. Although extremely unlikely, there ARE crazy people out there that would follow through with things that us 'rock star' say. Be responsible, mate.

"Oh, other than maybe he is a jealous or insecure kinda guy, I think I found the reason he does not like ANNIHILATOR! In that interview he did, scroll down and you will hear his answer to what band he toured with that were the biggest dicks… ANNIHILATOR. Why? Because our guitarist Dave Davis was a real drunkard, not-so-nice guy on that tour with them (this was the reason we asked Curran Murphy from NEVERMORE to join, right after that tour!) Oh, I think I just found yet even another reason! Hehe!"
