ANTHRAX Guitarist Says Recording 'Worship Music' Has Been 'An Emotional Roller Coaster'
July 13, 2011ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante and guitarist Rob Caggiano spoke to NME.com about their long-awaited 10th studio album, "Worship Music", which is due in September.
In an interview that was conducted backstage at the U.K. edition of the Sonisphere festival, Benante said: "I've got to say, METALLICA and the whole 'Big Four' thing really gave us a kick up the ass. It was like 'Right, get your shit together, let's go' and that gave us a deadline for the record."
Asked about "Worship Music", Caggiano said the band was happy to have finally completed the CD. "It's a relief now that it's done," he said. "We've been working on the record for a really long time and we worked out we've been in 15 different studios. It's been an emotional roller coaster."
Benante also spoke about the decision to re-record the album with vocalist Joey Belladonna, who rejoined the band in May 2010 following the departure of Dan Nelson. He said: "The record was 85 percent done and then we had no singer, so we kind of waited for Joey to want to go in and record and once he did, it all came together really quickly."
