May 1, 2011ANTHRAX, HELLYEAH and DEATH ANGEL headlined the eleventh edition of the Pulp Summer Slam festival, dubbed "XI: Resurrection", on April 30 at the Amoranto Stadium in Manila, Philippines. The 15-hour event also featured performances from 25 of the biggest local rock bands in the Philippines, including KAMIKAZEE, CHICOSCI, RAZORBACK, HILERA, FRANCO, MOONSTAR 88, PARAMITA, DAHONG PALAY and IMAGO, among others. ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante told the Manila Bulletin that being asked to be part of the concert series was an exciting proposition from the get-go. "We haven't been to the Philippines and when the offer came up we just said yes right away," he said at a press conference the day before the show. "I'm really excited to meet local metal fans and just have a great time."
At the same press conference, HELLYEAH/ex-PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, considered the spiritual leader of HELLYEAH, expressed eagerness to "rock out with Filipinos."
"Man, I'm just ready to go out there and rock, you know," he said. "I've heard that you guys are always enthusiastic for music so were going to go out there and give you our best."
A report from the press conference, including photos, can be found at Manila Concert Scene.
Pulp Summer Slam is the largest hard rock and metal festival in the Philippines. It attracts around 30,000 fans every year.
