ANVIL's Documentary To Open Toronto's HOT DOCS Festival
March 18, 2008According to Eye Weekly, "Anvil! The Story of Anvil", a mockumentary-like true account of fiftysomething Canadian heavy-metal practitioners Steve "Lips" Kudlow (vocals, guitar) and Robb Reiner (drums) who, after a desultory European tour with their band ANVIL, decide to record a 13th album in a final attempt to fulfill their boyhead dreams of stardom, will open the Hot Docs festival at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on April 17.
"Anvil! The Story of Anvil" made its debut in the Premieres section of the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, which ran January 17-27, 2008, in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Sundance, Utah.
The film's director Sacha Gervasi, who worked as writer on the Steven Spielberg-directed movie "The Terminal" (2004),tells Eye Weekly, "Toronto has never shown them [ANVIL] respect. So I wouldn't be surprised if they were nervous. But if there's even a tiny shift in perception, with people recognizing that ANVIL are a true national asset, that would be terrific."
