ARCH ENEMY Frontwoman ANGELA GOSSOW: 'I've Never Had Plastic Surgery'

September 27, 2007

In an exclusive interview in this week's Kerrang! magazine, ARCH ENEMY frontwoman Angela Gossow tackles all the rumors, lies and bullshit about her head-on.

Here's an extract:

"I've never had plastic surgery," says Gossow. "For one thing, where would I get the money from? I don't make any money from being in a metal band. ARCH ENEMY sells 200,000 copies [of each album] worldwide. I can hardly pay my rent from that.

"If I was Sharon Osbourne it would be pretty obvious that I would have enough money [to have cosmetic surgery], but I can't even afford a car. I've just spent six months in the studio making an album and so I made no money at all. We make a living from this, but only just. We're five people trying to live off the band. Every month I make 800 euros, which isn't very much. This is why I live in a part of Sweden where my flat costs only 300 euros per month. I make half of what a normal person in London would make, probably less."

That's not a big plastic surgery budget, is it?

"No, it isn't! If you were to put £20,000 on the table then I'm sure I would go and have some plastic surgery. Actually, I wouldn't want plastic surgery, but I would really like to have a couple of facial peels. I've been off the pill since the beginning of this year and I've had so many acne breakouts that I'd like to have my face peeled. But I just can't afford it.

"I had really bad acne when I was a teenager so I went on the pill. I just got off the pill and my skin has been going crazy. So I'm onstage trying to be a hot chick while at the same time suffering my fifth acne breakout in a week! I've been thinking about getting a job, but what kind of job can I do? Oh, I can't be in next week because I'm doing promotion in England. Oh, I won't be in for six months because I'm recording an album. What kind of employer would put up with that?"
