As reported yesterday, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN was forced to perform at The Docks in Toronto on Friday, April 6th with a reduced, three-piece band after it was discovered that proper visas and work permits had not been secured for his entire group by the time they got to the Canadian border. Yngwie, drummer John Macaluso, and bassist Randy Coven reportedly performed a full set as a power-trio and, by all accounts, did an admirable job considering the unusual circumstances. However, it appears that some fans had registered complaints through the guitarist's official web site, thus prompting Yngwie to respond on Sunday with the following “official” statement:

...

'Friday night's show in Toronto Canada was a tough call for me to make.

...

'Early in the week, we learned that the tour manager (who had to be fired for several reasons),had not secured proper paperwork (visas, work permits) for all the band members in all tour countries. I was faced with the choice of cancelling the show altogether or following the old show-business slogan of 'the show must go on.' We had just played near Buffalo the night before, which is relatively close to Toronto, but it has been quite some time since I played in Canada and a large amount of fan mail has been asking for me to play there again.

...

'We spoke with the promoter and many others for their opinions, and the consensus of opinion was that people come to an Yngwie Malmsteen show to see Yngwie Malmsteen, and it would be a bigger disappointment to cancel the show altogether. I don't like to disappoint fans, which is why I give 110% when I am playing on stage.

...

'I wish the entire band could have been with me on stage that night instead of sitting at the border on top of boxes of merchandise. I wanted to at least give the people of Toronto all I could give them under the circumstances rather than cancel the show, walk away, and give them nothing at all.'

...

--Sincerely, Yngwie Malmsteen

According to ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian, the band have just received the final drafts of their Beyond / BMG contract and are expecting to sign to the label shortly. ANTHRAX are looking to start recording the next studio album in June, for a late 2001 release.
