According to his official web site, former JUDAS PRIEST vocalist Rob Halford will be putting on a 'special live TV performance' tonight (August 1st, 8-11 PM New York time) at the MTV20: Live and Amost Legal birthday celebrations in New York. Halford will reportedly be opening the show with a “surprise line-up” which has not yet been disclosed. The show will be airing live on both MTV and MTV2. Other artists scheduled to make an appearance at the festivities include Dee Snider, Kid Rock, Fred Durst, NAUGHTY BY NATURE, Jane's Addiction, Billy Idol, P. Diddy, Method Man, Mary J. Blige, SUM 41, RUN-DMC, Busta Rhymes, and THE NEPTUNES.

Former TESTAMENT/SAVATAGE guitarist Alex Skolnick has launched an official web site at www.alexskolnick.com. As previously reported, the six-stringer will be partaking in the recording of TESTAMENT's upcoming collection of reworkings of early originals, entitled First Strike Is Deadly and due in October. Skolnick will also be making an appearance at next week's Thrash Of The Titans benefit concert for TESTAMENT vocalist Chuck Billy—who was recently diagnosed with cancer—where Alex will be performing with LEGACY, the band that preceded TESTAMENT and featured in its ranks vocalist Steve Sousa, who later left the group to join EXODUS. If you live in the New York area (where Skolnick is presently based),you can also catch the guitarist with his “funky '70s jazz” project SKOL PATROL at The Triad Lounge (formerly Dark Star) on Thursday, August 2nd. The Triad Lounge is located at 72nd Street and Broadway in New York City.

COAL CHAMBER vocalist Dez Fafara has commented on the status of his record label, Sever Records, for which he has reportedly signed three acts thus far, none of which have yet released any product through the Beyond/BMG Records-distributed company. According to the singer, “I've been very fortunate to have people take their time out to see my bands or council me on the label, such as Tony Berg and Todd Sullivan of Virgin, as well as Ron of Capitol, and many members of the Roadrunner staff. It is my hope in ten years to provide 20 bands with the opportunity to receive fair contracts and an opportunity to see the world.

...

“I have signed three acts. The first to speak of would be MOTOGRATER — a band from Santa Barbara, CA. They're a five-piece act, they don't have a bass or a guitar. They play this thing called a motograter, it's an instrument that Bruce Butler of MOTOGRATER designed. It's a percussive instrument that replaces the bass and guitar in one. They're crazy, they all have shaved heads, and they paint themselves with a combo of grease, white &amp black paint, and dirt. It's the most raw thing I've ever seen. Wait till you see these guys, you're gonna sh.t!”

BIOHAZARD drummer Danny Schuler has posted the following update via the group's official web site at www.biohazard.com:

...

'Summer vacation — BIOHAZARD style!

...

“July 29th, 2001,Taipei,Taiwan - Most people spend their summers at the beach , doin BBQ and block parties, the jersey shore, or just chillin' at Moms in Brooklyn. Or if you're like me, going to summer school to make up for all the classes you cut out of. And then cutting out of summer school!!! BIOHAZARD, we travel the whole friggin' world like the globetrottin', jetsetting young men we are. And what a fiasco this can be!

...

“Traveling the world in a rock band ain't as easy and luxurious as it seems, believe me! I'm sure most of you think we got METALLICA money and fly first class....NOPE!! Coach all the damn way Baby! We flew 19 hours from Newark the other night, just to get here in Taiwan, play ONE 45 MINUTE SHOW, and are flying home 18 hours tonight. It's like flying around the world for the weekend!! Most people hang out Friday, Saturday night, recover Sunday, and go back to work Monday. We fly around the friggin' world in three days and we'll still be sittin' in traffic on the BQE [Brooklyn-Queens Expressway] Monday goin' to the studio!!

...

“I can't complain though, we'd do anything for our people ANYWHERE, I think we've proved it time and time again. This summer alone we've been back and forth to Europe 7 times, we're in Taiwan now, and will be in Japan next month, only to go back to Europe in September to start our European Uncivilization tour, then straight back to the good ole USA in October, and then right back to Europe 'till X-MAS!!!!! HOLY CRAP!!!!!

...

“This sh.t does keep us busy, especially with our latest and greatest album yet, Uncivilization coming out in September. We hardly got time to wipe our own asses! We love it all though, and will continue to perform and travel till y'all can't stand us anymore!! Just wanted to give you all a taste of what our lives have been like the past few weeks, It's been so crazy, I can't wait to get home and get ready for our next BIO-ADVENTURE!! ( sounds cheesy, right? F.ck it, I'll leave it in...) Anyways, hope to see you all at some point during our travels.....IN THE PIT!!!! DANNY/BIOHAZARD. P.S.: The show in Taipei was great, we made lots of new friends and will definitely be going back.....PEACE”

According to The Connoisseur Collection, a four-CD retrospective live CD entitled Deep Purple On The Road will finally be released later this month after over three years of delay. The set, which reportedly includes several previously-unreleased live recordings, charts the story of DEEP PURPLE's live concert releases, from the early 70's and shows recorded in Scandinavia, through classic Machine Head era, Coverdale and Hughes' first UK shows, and on to the bands tour of the far-east with Tommy Bolin. The story is brought up to date with tracks from the reunion decades. Of the box set's 28 tracks, seven are appearing on CD for the first time in most of Europe. On CD two “Strange Kind Of Woman”, “Lazy” and “Fireball” make their CD debut having previously only been heard on the Scandinavian Nights video. On CD three, “Burn” and “Mistreated” have only been released on CD in Japan. Finally on CD four “You Keep On Moving” and “Wild Dogs” come from the 1977 album Last Concert in Japan, which was unreleased in much of Europe. The box set of four CDs includes a 16-page, fully-illustrated and annotated booklet and a set of 12 collectors cards. The individual CDs contain a fully-illustrated and annotated four-page booklet.

German power metallers EDGUY will be shooting a video for the song 'All The Clowns', which comes off the group's forthcoming album Mandrake, later this week.
