Amid industry rumblings indicating that over half a million finished CDs of POWERMAN 5000's Anyone For Doomsday? CD had to be destroyed as the band were sent back into the studio to write more material with “outside writers” to be included on the revised version of the album when it appears in early 2002, vocalist Spider One has issued an official statement offering the band's explanation for the delay in the CD's release and the cancellation of the group's tour with SALIVA and MACHINE HEAD. According to the singer, “As we were finishing the mix of the album, we started to write more songs, and it soon became clear that these new songs belonged on the record, but we were no longer in the recording phase. We should have put the brakes on the project at the time, so we could have gone back to record the newer material, but because of the release schedule &amp the upcoming tour looming over our heads, we felt pressured to deliver Anyone For Doomsday? on the deadline. Now I realize that deadlines are for lawyers &amp accountants, not rock bands! Although doing this is a risky move, we feel it's worth it.

...

“It's really very simple: we want to give the fans the greatest POWERMAN record possible, and we almost settled for 80% great. In the end you have to go with your gut instincts and I'm proud to say that after all these years PM5K is still about the music and not the dollars (trust me, stopping the release of the record was not a cheap solution!).

...

“As far as the tour goes, it just didn't make any sense to go out on the road with an unfinished album. Getting …Doomsday? finished is the priority right now. Tours come &amp go, but a band's album is around forever. An as soon as it's completed, the tour will go on! We want to apologize to anyone who bought tickets for the shows, and also to SALIVA, MACHINE HEAD, STEREOMUD &amp HALFCOCKED for wreaking havoc on their schedules.

...

“Sorry if this update is not as dramatic &amp exciting as some of you thought the story would be. No, I'm not going into rehab or on suicide watch. No one has had a Mariah Carey meltdown (yet). It's just about us wanting to take it to the next level every time we make a record. Not very good gossip, but that' s the truth.

...

'Thanks for your loyalty - you guys are the best (and smartest) fans any band has ever had. Stay tuned - the PM5K saga continues.... —SPIDER

Anyone for Doomsday?'s already-issued first single, 'Bombshell', is #19 on Radio &amp Records' Active Rock Chart and is widely considered to be relative flop, with industry rumors indicating that Dreamworks Records (PM5K's label) were less than thrilled with the second-single candidates on the rest of the album, ultimately leading the band and the record company to reach the above-mentioned compromise at the 11th hour.

ANTHRAX have reportedly recruited former BOILER ROOM guitarist Rob Caggiano to accompany the band on their upcoming US tour with JUDAS PRIEST, which is scheduled to begin in mid-September and run for a full month. It is presently unclear if Caggiano will become a permanent replacement for Paul Crook, who is believed to be presently keeping busy with a solo project and his involvement with former SKID ROW vocalist Sebastian Bach on the recording front.

In related news, HBO is airing a “first look”-style special on the upcoming Ghosts Of Mars movie, for which ANTHRAX contributed “eight pieces of music” during a several-day recording session back in early March. Here are the announced air times for John Carpenter's Ghosts Of Mars: HBO First Look:

...

“Man, this has been a long hot summer down here in Carolina so far. We had a great time touring all these past few months, and it was a great feeling to finish that period off with this Live album. The footage from the show is pretty damn cool too and the DVD/VHS is coming out in late September.

...

“In the meantime Mike Dean has been working feverishly revamping our 'studio' down at our practice pad we like to call The Wig Shoppe. So needless to say we'll be down there working on some new stuff for the next studio album as well as a couple trips out playing again before too long.

“Thanks to all and see you soon, woodroe/coc

RAGING SPEEDHORN TO GIVE AWAY PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED TRACK THROUGH KERRANG.COM ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 25th

...

To celebrate the launch of kerrang.com, the folks over at Kerrang! have decided to enact a little scheme called ཊ Days Of Downloads' to coincide with the ཊ Days Of Rock' (which starts with the RAGING SPEEDHORN gig at the Monarch on August 20th). Every band that is headlining a show that is part of the ཊ Days Of Rock' has been asked to contribute an exclusive track to www.kerrang.com for download.

...

On each day at approximately 10:00 AM or so, there will be an MP3 put up on www.kerrang.com for free download, and the track will be available for only 24 hours before it is withdrawn.

...

In RAGING SPEEDHORN's case, we have gone back to autumn of 1998 and dug up a track called 'Down', one of the first songs the band wrote. It was recorded during the first recording session the band did together, at Premier Studios in Corby. On this day the band recorded four tracks, and the other three will be familiar to RAGING SPEEDHORN fans: “Thumper”, “Knives And Faces”, and “High Whore”. However, the band decided not to do any further work with “Down”, and it was never released on any of the band's commercially available demos. The track since has remained in the tape vault...until now.

...

“Down” will be available for free download at www.kerrang.com from approximately 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 25th. It will remain on the site until approximately 10:00 AM on Sunday, August 26th. Once it is taken down from the site, it will not be put back up. There are no plans to release this track in any other location or in any other form, so this will be your one chance to get hold of a “lost” SPEEDHORN track — don't miss it!

DOS MARIJUANOS? -- WILL THE REAL LOS MARIJUANOS PLEASE STAND UP!

...

Chicago, IL — Members of the Chicago based rap trio LOS MARIJUANOS were taken aback earlier a couple of months ago when they were bombarded with e-mails &amp faxes about an interesting article. Online music site Sonicnet.com (http://www.sonicnet.com/news/story.jhtml?id=1444451) reports that a super group of sorts, comprised of members of CYPRESS HILL, JANE'S ADDICTION, DEFTONES, DOWNSET, and EVERLAST are currently gigging in Los Angeles under the moniker, LOS MARIJUANOS.

...

'This is kind of f.cked up,' muses lead rapper Pony Boy, but it's really just kind of strange. LOS MARIJUANOS have been tight with CYPRESS HILL's Sen Dog for the past few years, and we even represent his 'Latin Thug' clothing line.' In fact, at a recent music festival sponsored by local radio station Q101, Chicago's MARIJUANOS got members of CYPRESS HILL, DEFTONES, and EVERLAST himself on video speaking highly of the Chicago trio. In addition to the personal relationships between both groups, Chicago's LOS

MARIJUANOS have recently been profiled in The Source, Murder Dog, XXL, and asked to share the stage with CYPRESS HILL at this year's High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam (Nov. 2001).

...

Video and audio will be available on the LOS MARIJUANOS website.

...

'It's kind of perplexing because members of this group are our homeys,' Ponyboy continues, 'but sh.t, we have our second album coming out in less than a month and we don't need to go confusing people. We have a hard enough time as an indy group.'

...

Sleepy &amp Sinbad, who have run Chicago's top, urban, independent label Wicked Entertainment, for the past 7 years state that the group has sent all parties, including, Paul Rosenberg, manager of CYPRESS HILL, and EMINEM, a 'friendly cease-and-desist letter stating that the group has recorded under this name since 1998, and that they would appreciate it if the California collective would come together under another name.'

...

'I'm sure we can all sit down, have a smoke session and talk about all this,' Ponyboy states in a positive, however pensive tone. 'We're all down for this music and this legalization movement, and if we can't get this right, who can?'

...

LOS MARIJUANOS' highly-anticipated 2nd release The Smoke Out was released by Wicked Entertainment on July 31st Nationwide.

Sweden's FRETERNIA have rejoined forces with vocalist Pasi Humppi.
