After many years of silence, the Swedish death metal band DIMENSION ZERO—featuring IN FLAMES guitarist Jesper Strömblad and ex-IN FLAMES axeman Glenn Ljungström—have decided to make their first full-length album. The CD is tentatively scheduled to be recorded in August 2001 and issued through an as-yet-unspecified label in early 2002.

SKINLAB are in discussions with producer Drew Mazurek (i.e. NOTHINGFACE, GODHEAD, GWAR) about a possible collaboration on the group's forthcoming third full-length CD, tentatively titled The Revolting Room. Scheduled to be recorded during June, the album may or may not end up being recorded as a three-piece, pending the outcome of the band's ongoing guitarist search. According to bassist/vocalist Steev Esquivel, SKINLAB has written a couple of brand new tunes in the last week that are “crushing” and that will likely turn into some of the album's highlights. Titles for the songs in question are :”Never Give In” and “Slave The Way”. Steev also rejected the various suggestions for a new guitarist that have popped up in Internet postings, a list that includes such well-known names as ex-MACHINE HEAD / SOULFLY / current MEDICATION axeman Logan Mader, former EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt and ex-TESTAMENT / DEATH / OBITUARY shredder James Murphy. His exact comments on the above suggestions are reprinted here:

...

James Murphy: “NOOOOOOOOO! I hate leads. [He doesn't have] that good of a track record. Sure, he has played in every band out there, [but] I just don't want my band to be one of them!”

...

Gary Holt: “NNOTTTTTTTTT! Too old-school. He's been there done that. SKINLAB's second tour was with EXODUS. Let's just say I know him [well].

...

Logan Mader: “Logan is out of the question!!”

Speaking of James Murphy, the guitarist is said to have relocated to Florida (where his family resides) after a several-year stint in the San Francisco Bay Area (where he tried his hand at production work, having worked on an early SKINLAB demo and several Shrapnel Records projects),and is apparently talking about reforming the death metal band DISINCARNATE with original vocalist Bryan Cegon (who sang on the group's sole CD to date, 1993's Dreams Of The Carrion Kind).

Finland's SENTENCED have decided to scrap all plans of festival appearances this summer in order to fully concentrate on the writing of the group's forthcoming studio album, which is presently scheduled to be recorded at the end of the year (for an early 2002 release).

Texas doom metal kings SOLITUDE AETURNUS have delayed the recording of their sixth studio album while drummer Wolf Covington recovers from a shoulder injury and until guitarist John Perez gets back from touring with ELECTRIC WIZARD and WARHORSE as the two bands' tour manager. SOLITUDE AETURNUS is currently planning on entering the studio around June or July to begin work on the as-yet-untitled CD.

Finland's SINERGY, featuring CHILDREN OF BODOM mainman Alexi Laiho and American vocalist Kimberly Goss, have announced the title for their forthcoming third studio album, which they will begin recording on August 1st at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden. Suicide By My Side is tentatively scheduled to be released on January 14th, 2002.

Sweden's NECROPHOBIC have parted ways with guitarist David Parland. According to the band's official web site, “[The collaboration] didn't work out for either parts and it was agreed that this was the best for the band's future. A new guitarist is already brought into the band. His name is Johan Bergebäck and he has been a close friend to the band since a long time. Johan Bergebäck was earlier a member in Swedish death metal band MORPHEUS, before the band was put to sleep in 1994.”

Atlanta's SEVENDUST will be touring the US as well as doing some international dates this summer following the completion of the group's third studio album with producer Ben Grosse. These are the only confirmed dates so far:

SKINDRED, featuring former members of the Welsh crew DUB WAR, have officially confirmed their recent signing of a worldwide recording deal with RCA Records. They are currently selecting producers in anticipation to recording their debut album in May. The as-yet-untitled CD is tentatively scheduled for a September release.

According to Hardknockz.com, MOTLEY CRUE have not parted ways with guitarist Mick Mars, contrary to the rumors that have been circulating via the Internet for some time. Although unspecified, the source of this information is “suspected to be [one of the other members] of” the CRUE.

Norway's IMMORTAL have cancelled their appearance at the With Full Force Festival. The group have now been added to the line-up of bands performing at the Metal Dayz Festival in Switzerland on August 3-5.
