ATHEIST Scrap Reunion Plans, Pursue Separate Projects
March 11, 2002Contrary to previous reports, legendary Florida progressive metal act ATHEIST will not be reuniting to record a new studio CD, according to guitarist Rand Burkey. Citing various business and scheduling conflicts, some of which involve the promotional commitments of frontman Kelly Shaefer related to his main band NEUROTICA, ATHEIST have decided against doing a reunion album and are unlikely to proceed with any reformation plans any time in the near future.
As previously reported, NEUROTICA recently recorded four new songs ("Whirlwind", "10 Feet Tall", "Get With It", and "POW") that will be added to the final track listing for their upcoming third, self-titled release, which is scheduled to be issued through Smackdown/Koch Records on May 21st. Burkey, on the other hand, has plans “to continue writing in my studio while working with a few different singers until I find the right combination of sound to get back into the studio. I expect it should look promising by around Christmas 2002. I have a lot of new stuff that sounds real good and some sounds like commercial mainstream rock but still contains heavy-sounding and beefy chord progressions. I am looking for a tough and talented grungy/raspy singer to help me sell some records this time around. I seriously think I have some hit songs but won't know for sure until I hear vocals on them. I am still working on some music that sounds pretty progressive but will probably never get any interest by anyone except myself and a couple of fans.”
