AUDIOSLAVE Singer Wants To Make 'Billie Jean' His Own

Launch Radio Networks reports: AUDIOSLAVE singer Chris Cornell admits that his decision to cover MICHAEL JACKSON's "Billie Jean" is a surprising choice. The vocalist said that there were two reasons why he wanted to record the track, explaining, "The song is quite dark and I knew I could make it in to my own, like JOHNNY CASH did it with SOUNDGARDEN's 'Rusty Cage' and NINE INCH NAILS' 'Hurt'. If I've played it for someone in the studio, it takes them a little while to realize what the song is. I think it's a moving song and covering MICHAEL JACKSON is the last thing anyone would expect from me. It's an odd choice for a cover song."

"Billie Jean" will appear on Cornell's second solo album, which he has been working on this fall and plans to release in March.

The former SOUNDGARDEN and TEMPLE OF THE DOG frontman plans to tour behind the disc and wants to perform material from all stages of his career.

Cornell told MTV.com that the album, his first solo outing since 1999's "Euphoria Morning", has its "gospel and R&B moments."

AUDIOSLAVE released its third album, "Revelations", in September.
