Australia's MANDRAKE To Join DEEP PURPLE / STATUS QUO Oz Tour

March 20, 2006

Australian power trio MANDRAKE will join the DEEP PURPLE/STATUS QUO tour in Melbourne on April 29-30, and Canberra on May 14. MANDRAKE will also be releasing their new self-titled EP in time for the tour and will soon be announcing EP launch dates in Sydney to coincide with the release.

Asked how an unsigned band could actually be "asked" by the promoter to join the tour rather than beg and crawl for such a prestigious gig, MANDRAKE bassist George replied, "The last time this promoter asked us to support STATUS QUO in 2002 for four dates we sold more CDs than them after the shows. Not bad considering we were nobodies and only played for 25 minutes each night! As well as this, DEEP PURPLE fans gave us the big 'thumbs up' after a few dates on their 2001 and 2004 tours."

"There is a huge market for bands like us that put on a hell of a rock show," the bassist continued. "There is a prime market of punters desperate to see a musician do incredible things on a guitar, with a HUGE voice to-boot, but the industry that should be promoting this is still obsessed with 'fringe' post-pop/punk artists — whatever that is!!"

Sound clips from MANDRAKE's debut CD, "Visceral", are available at www.mandrake.com.au.
