AVENGED SEVENFOLD Frontman Given Go-Ahead To Start 'Light' Singing

September 21, 2018

AVENGED SEVENFOLD vocalist M. Shadows has told Revolver in a new interview that his condition has improved after a blood blister on his vocal cords forced AVENGED to cancel a summer tour with PROPHETS OF RAGE and THREE DAYS GRACE. Communicating via e-mail, since he's still on vocal rest, Shadows explained: "Luckily, I didn't have surgery. I was just put on a long vocal rest until the swelling went down. A lot of singers get this at some point, so it's nothing to worry about. I've already been cleared to start humming and doing light warm-ups."

When asked what has been the hardest part about having to remain silent over the past two months, Shadows responded: "Not speaking when you are out in public is tough. People don't understand and think you're full of shit."

Asked if he had to take any special precautions or go on a particular diet while recovering, Shadows said: "I'm always on a diet for singing, also acid reflux pills and lots of water. I could probably start singing very soon but I'm going to take this recovery slow just to make sure everything is as strong as it can be. I'll be ready to roll for the next record."

AVENGED SEVENFOLD has just released a new song called "Mad Hatter". The track was recorded for the "Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4" video game and is included on AVENGED SEVENFOLD's EP, "Black Reign", which is being made available on September 21. The effort contains all four songs the band has written and recorded for the "Call Of Duty: Black Ops" franchise.

"Mad Hatter" was recorded in Los Angeles this past March and co-produced by the band and Joe Barresi, who helmed AVENGED SEVENFOLD's critically acclaimed album "The Stage", including its Grammy-nominated title track.

"Mad Hatter" is the first original material AVENGED SEVENFOLD has released since last year's "Dose", which originally surfaced in the Gameloft mobile game "Dungeon Hunter 5". It later appeared on the "deluxe edition" 2017 reissue of the group's 2016 studio album, "The Stage".

AVENGED SEVENFOLD will probably start working on its eighth studio LP this fall for a 2019 release.
