BACKYARD BABIES Guitarist Says Originality Is Lacking In New Heavy Rock Bands
September 8, 2008Swedish sleaze rockers BACKYARD BABIES have slammed some of metal's biggest new bands by insisting there is not enough individuality in rock these days. Speaking on the band's current UK tour, guitarist/vocalist Dregen (real name: Andreas Tyrone Svensson) told Rushonrock.com, "There's only one WILDHEARTS. There's only one QUIREBOYS. There's only one BACKYARD BABIES. We stand out. It's not like we're BULLET FOR MY DYING BRIDE'S VALENTINE or ROMANCE FOR THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS or THE ROMANCE OF MY FRIEND'S FUNERAL.
He continued, "I don't know if it's me getting old but when I look through magazines like Kerrang!, it looks like a six-page spread on the same band when it's actually four different bands and they all look the fucking same! It's good to know that we're the BACKYARD BABIES and we like it even if you don't.
"That whole fucking boy-band obsession is over I think and if you build up your whole image around that teen thing, then it's harder to age. If you're just a rock and roll band like the BACKYARD BABIES then it's easier to develop and have your fans grow with you. We've never been interested in repeating ourselves and we always try to make every record unique."

The latest, self-titled album from BACKYARD BABIES topped the chart in the band's home country in its first week of release. The CD also entered the Finnish album chart at No. 31.
Released in Europe on August 18 via Billion Dollar Babies/Spinefarm, "Backyard Babies" was recorded during 90 sweaty days and nights at Polar and Big Island Sound studios in Stockholm with producer Jacob Hellner (RAMMSTEIN, APOCALYPTICA).
The video for the CD's first single, "Fuck off and Die", can be viewed below.
BACKYARD BABIES released its fifth studio full-length album, "People Like People Like People Like Us", in April 2006 via Century Media Records.
