BELIEVER Frontman: 'We Wanted To Have Fun With This And Get Back To Our Emotional Metal Roots'
December 8, 2008Guitarist/vocalist Kurt Bachman of the reactivated late '80s/early '90s technical-thrash metallers BELIEVER was recently interviewed by Decibel magazine's The Deciblog. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Decibel: Why resurrect BELIEVER now?
Bachman: Joey [Daub, drums] and I met in the studio and decided to see what would happen if we tried to write again. I guess we liked what we were doing and decided to put it out for others to hear. There really wasn't a plan or a "Lets get the band back together" conversation. It pretty much just fell into place.
Decibel: What can fans expect from the fourth BELIEVER album? Will it be anything like "Dimensions" or "Sanity Obscure"?
Bachman: We think that fans will hear some of each record but the writing is a bit different. It's still BELIEVER but we wanted to offer something new as we have in the past. Some people would like us to put out another "Sanity" or "Dimensions" but we didn't want to rehash the past. Those close to us have said that the new material sounds like a natural progression from "Dimensions". We wanted to have fun with this and get back to our emotional metal roots. Getting together to write and record was exciting. It's when the creativity and insanity was let loose.
Decibel: An unmastered version of the song "Medwton" debuted on Bam Margera's "Radio Bam" show (click here to download the track). Why Margera's show and how have the post-show reactions been to the song?
Bachman: Bam was a fan of "Sanity" and "Dimensions" and Deron Miller from CKY did the amazing guitar solo for "Medwton". Deron was appearing on Bam's radio show and really wanted to play the tune so we agreed. It was a bit unlike us to let an unmastered version of a tune played, but we're trying to work on our control and perfection issues. Someone must have pulled the tune from the show and posted a link online, because many people have heard it and the response has been great. Nothing negative yet but we're looking forward to that type of response once the entire record is released. [laughs]
