BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME Begins Writing New Material

December 15, 2008

Bassist Dan Briggs of the Raleigh, North Carolina-based progressive metalcore quintet BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME has issued the following update:

"As most of you know, we finished up our U.S. run for 'Colors' last weekend with four shows with some of our good North Carolina friends' bands. We then promptly got to work beginning the writing process for our next record at our practice space in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. We had plenty of Moe's, 'Lost' season 4, and Blake's mom's vegan chocolate chip cookies to fuel this first writing session.

"Four days into it we finished the first song for the new record. Some adjectives thrown around while writing it were 'noisy COALESCE breakdown,' '3/4 MASTODON groove,' '9/8 MARS VOLTA,' 'QUEEN chromatic build up,' 'MEGADETH chorus,' and a whole lot more. Just your typical start to BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME album!

"I highly doubt we'll update this blog, I just wanted to post some evidence that we had started writing and were all really really excited and that there's an extreme abundance of great musical ideas flowing out of us.

"We're gonna spend the rest of December writing and relaxing before we head to Australia for the month of January. We'll pick back up with the writing in mid February after my other band ORBS records our debut full-length and everyone's had a second to regroup after the tour overseas."

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME's new CD/DVD, titled "Colors Live", was released on October 18. It features the band's August 2 concert at Rocket Town in Nashville, Tennessee where BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME performed its latest album, "Colors", in its entirety along with a fan-voted "greatest hits" set.

Released on September 18, 2007 via Victory Records, "Colors" was previously described by BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME as "a 65-minute opus of non-stop pummeling beautiful music. We have described this release as 'adult contemporary death prog metal.'"

"Colors" sold 12,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 57 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Fan-filmed video footage of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME June 22, 2008 performance at the Hellfest in Clisson, France can be viewed below (video footage shot by Metal Nick).
