BILLY CORGAN Opens Up In New Interview
March 4, 2010The Pulse of Radio reports: SMASHING PUMPKINS frontman and sole original member Billy Corgan opens up to Rolling Stone magazine in his first interview with the publication in a decade. According to excerpts published on the magazine's web site, Corgan says he's had a rough time in the 10 years since he last spoke with Rolling Stone, revealing that he was waking up every morning for a while and thinking, "Go eat breakfast, or go kill yourself."
Corgan discusses his much-reported relationship with Jessica Simpson, saying he "loves" her but declining to get specific. "If I go, 'Oh, we're just friends,' then it's like, 'Did they go out, did he dump her or she dump him, what happened?'" he says. "It has nothing to do with any of that. Sometimes people just like being around each other, and good things come out of that. My goal in life is to love whoever I think is worth loving, and I think if people knew her like I knew her, they would love her like I do. It's really simple."
Corgan also talks about his 2009 split with the PUMPKINS' last original member apart from himself, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, saying that he fired him. He also discusses his father's heroin addiction, revealing that his dad was arrested two years ago with a needle still in his arm.
In another excerpt, Corgan asks, "Do I belong in the conversation about the best artists in the world? My answer is yes, I do . . . I am influential. I am."
The interview appears in the new issue of Rolling Stone, out now.
