BLACK SABBATH Guitarist Hailed As One Of CLASSIC ROCK's 'Icons Of Rock'

December 13, 2006

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi was named one of the "100 Icons of Rock" in the December issue of Classic Rock magazine.

Commented ex-WARRIOR SOUL/current DIRTY RIG frontman Kory Clarke: "Tony Iommi's guitar tone is awesome, and it's got such power. Listen to him on the song 'Black Sabbath' — he defined heavy metal on the spot….There's nothing the man can't play….The amazing thing is that he’s still doing it today, and looks so great….this is the master of the riff — and where would the music we all love be without Tony Iommi?"

The full list, which includes the likes of Jimmy Page, Ronnie James Dio, Rory Gallagher, Jim Morrison, Billy Gibbons and Rob Halford, can be found in the current issue of Classic Rock.

As previously reported, Iommi will team up with singer Ronnie James Dio, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Vinny Appice to tour as HEAVEN AND HELL. The group is expected to do shows in North America next year, as well as festivals in Europe.

In addition, the group is recording a few new songs for a Dio-era BLACK SABBATH best-of that should come out next year.

Ozzy Osbourne has sent his best wishes to HEAVEN AND HELL, while adding that the classic BLACK SABBATH lineup — including drummer Bill Ward — will release a new album and mount a tour late next year.

"Heaven and Hell" was the name of the first album Dio recorded with BLACK SABBATH, back in 1980.
