BLACK SABBATH, MOTÖRHEAD, LED ZEPPELIN, QUEEN Featured In 'Rock Legends At Rockfield' Book

September 15, 2007

BLACK SABBATH, MOTÖRHEAD, LED ZEPPELIN and QUEEN are among the artists that are featured in "Rock Legends at Rockfield", a new book which looks at the history of the Rockfield Studios, the world's most famous (and the first) residential recording studio situated in rural Monmouthshire, Wales.

The book examines how this studio facility rose from a dilapidated set of farm buildings to become one of the most famous brands in recording history and a byword for musical excellence. The solid stone farmhouse building, turned into studios, gave the place unique acoustics which defined the sound of many classic, multi-million selling records. The book is packed with previously unheard humorous anecdotes from behind the scenes of the making of musical history. The book also tells the tales behind the recording of such modern classics (including "Bohemian Rhapsody" by QUEEN).

"I'm amazed no-one had written about it before," the book's author, journalist Jeff Collins, told BBC News.

Robert Plant returned to Rockfield last year on the 25th anniversary of his first solo album and was interviewed by Collins for the book.

The 59-year-old told Collins he was "re-born both personally and professionally" at the studios after the break-up of LED ZEPPELIN, following the death of drummer John Bonham.

He said: "After all that wild stuff, and momentum, this was an absolute dream, because it was pastoral, funny, and it had a history, the place itself was a bit more passive than any kind I'd ever been in."
