BLUE ÖYSTER CULT Concert Canceled Because Of Insurance Reasons

July 19, 2003

Angela Yeager of the Statesman Journal reports that "the BLUE ÖYSTER CULT concert that was supposed to happen [in Salem, Oregon] last Sunday (July 13) was canceled because of insurance reasons.

"Jeffry Stolz of Silver Warrior Productions was the local promoter responsible for putting on the show. He canceled the concert Saturday after learning he didn't have the proper insurance policy for a one-day only event.

" 'They had me under the wrong policy,' he said. "It was like $5,000 for the new one, and I couldn't come up with that in one day."

"Stolz also cited low ticket sales as a reason for the cancellation. Fewer than 100 tickets had been sold through TicketWest as of Saturday.

"Steve Schenck, manager of BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, said he was informed late in the process about the canceled concert. He said the band would not work with Stolz again unless they got the money upfront.

" 'He left us hanging in the breeze,' he said. 'I had to rebook plane tickets to send the band to other places."

"Stolz said he was hoping to reschedule the Salem concert, but Schenck said that is not likely to happen after their experience dealing with Silver Warrior Productions."
