Book Of Condolences For BLACKFOOT Drummer JAKSON SPIRES Available Online

March 17, 2005

A guest book has been created as a tribute to former BLACKFOOT drummer/songwriter Jakson Spires, who died Wednesday (March 16) at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Florida.

According to The Palm Beach Post , Spires, 53, lived in Fort Pierce for the last three years but was born in Raleigh, N.C. He suffered a brain hemorrhage earlier this week and did not recover.

Nicknamed "Thunderfoot" by fans and other musicians early in his career, Spires became well-known among Southern rock fans for his work behind the drums, the lyrics he wrote and his voice.

Spires was a drummer and songwriter for BLACKFOOT, which he formed with childhood friends, in the '70s and '80s, and then joined the SOUTHERN ROCK ALL-STARS. Both bands did several national tours, and members of BLACKFOOT reunited recently and were planning to start another tour in April.

Spires is survived by his wife, Sherry; three daughters; a son; a brother; and five grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being handled by All County Funeral Home and Crematory in Stuart.
