BRAVE Builds Beautiful Music With 'Monuments'
September 10, 2008Four years might seem like a lifetime for most bands to have between recordings, but Washington, D.C.'s progressive/rock band BRAVE used that time (which included nine months in the studio) to assemble its most adventurous and ambitious release to date, the passionately sculpted "Monuments".
The sextet's latest offering showcases the band's master musicianship, from vibrant violin playing to memorable guitar hooks, a tight rhythm section and singer Michelle Loose's powerfully honest and heartwarming vocal. And let's not forget, the incredible production that cascade's over "Monuments".
The secret of the band's latest offering is the variety of performances — from the rock-ish snarl of "Hold On" to the playful violin-tinged number "Hero" and the ultra-addictive "Driven", easily one of the standout tracks on the new album.
While some classify their music alongside such successful acts as LACUNA COIL, EVANESCENCE and THE GATHERING, BRAVE has worked hard to make a name for themselves over the years, refusing to follow anyone else blueprints. One listen to "Monuments" and you'll agree with them too.
Loose commented on the recording process: "We had a lot of studio set backs with this recording, technical issues, scheduling problems, but we really wanted to persevere and make this our most accurate musical expression to date. We took our time crafting the songs and made sure that each song developed exactly as we had envisioned, I think the final product really exceeded our expectations."
