BRIAN 'HEAD' WELCH: Playing With KORN Again Was 'A Family Moment'
May 8, 2012KORN was joined onstage by former guitarist Brian "Head" Welch this past Saturday (May 5) at the Carolina Rebellion festival at Rockingham Speedway in Rockingham, North Carolina. According to The Pulse Of Radio, Welch joined the band to perform its classic song "Blind", with singer Jonathan Davis introducing him by saying, "For a long-ass time, this spot right here has been very lonely — very very lonely. I want to bring out one of my truest and oldest and most beloved friends to come out and have some fun with this. You guys ready? My boyyyyyyy!"
The performance marked the first time in seven years that KORN has played with Welch, who left the group in 2005 to become a born-again Christian.
Welch told EarplugsRequired.com the next day in a video interview which can be seen below, "It wasn't planned [for me to go up on stage and perform with KORN]. I was just going [to Carolina Rebellion] because my daughter loves CHEVELLE and she likes EVANESCENCE and everything. We found out they were playing [at the event] and P.O.D., who [LOVE AND DEATH, Welch's new band is] opening for now, are friends of mine, and they were playing on that same thing, so we were like, 'Can we go cruise with you for two days? Go see CHEVELLE? My daughter loves it. And I could say hi to the KORN guys?' And then when we got there, we just hung out and nothing was talked about [me going up on stage with KORN] at all; we just hung out. And then right before KORN's set, they said, 'Hey, you wanna jam with us?' They said, 'You wanna jam the last three songs?' And I was, like, 'No.' I don't know them good enough, as far as, like, they use different tunings and they changed the songs from the record. So there was no way I could have done it and played it right. So I got up and did 'Blind' and it was amazing. It was really fun. There was tears. It was a family moment."
Both Welch and bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu have said in recent interviews that a full reunion could be possible one day.
Fans have pointed to the band's upcoming 20th anniversary as a recording act in 2014 as one possible milestone to attach a reunion to.
Welch is currently on the road with his new band, LOVE AND DEATH, which recently issued a new EP called "Chemicals". KORN is touring behind its 10th studio effort, "The Path Of Totality".
