British Rock Singer Killed In Stage-Diving Stunt

A rock band's lead singer has died after a stage dive went wrong.

Patrick Sherry, 29, frontman of BAD BEAT REVUE and a married father-of-two, jumped up to grab a lighting rig during a gig but fell head-first on to the venue's solid wood floor.

Older brother Brendan, 33, who is also in the band, saw the accident.

A witness said: "He put the microphone down and crouched before leaping off the stage, which was about a metre high, and trying to grab the rig. I don't know whether he caught it or not, but his momentum carried him forward. He went upside down and hit the floor head-first. The whole thing lasted about five seconds. It was horrendous."

Patrick, of Silsden, West Yorks, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he died the following morning of head injuries.

BAD BEAT REVUE had only stepped in at the last minute to replace a band who had pulled out of last Wednesday's Club NME night at the Warehouse in Leeds.

Brendan said: "My brother was quiet and unassuming in his everyday life. On stage he was like a caged animal set free and he died doing what he did best."

The singer's wife of two years, Charlotte, is said to be devastated by his death.

Police will view CCTV footage of the gig ahead of an inquest, due to open this week.
