BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE's MATT TUCK: 'We Don't Pay Too Much Attention To Reviews These Days'

April 18, 2016

In a brand new interview with Gigwise, vocalist/guitarist Matt Tuck of Welsh metallers BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE spoke about the intense reaction that the group's music receives from its fans and critics alike. He said: "When the band first started and we did our first couple of records, people's reviews and opinions would be the be-all and end-all of how we perceived things to be going. What we do now is see that if we're happy and can do these kind of massive tours with a band like KILLSWITCH [ENGAGE] supporting. How can you not be happy with that?"

He continued: "We don't pay too much attention to reviews these days, even the good ones. The fact that we can do what we do is enough.

"It doesn't really matter what people say. It's the connection you have with the listener and whether they love it or not. No matter who says what, good or bad, nothing else means anything. As a band, you do go through these moments of not connecting so much and then making it, but you just have to stay true to what you do and hope people feel the same way."

Asked what he thinks it is about BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE that fans can cling on to, Tuck said: "It just boils down to the fact that we've always stuck to our guns. When you connect with someone on your first record, that's special and there's nothing like it. The success we had with 'The Poison' and 'Scream, Aim, Fire' gave us that solid fan base and the leeway to do what we want."

He added: "People will always have their opinions about what's good and what's not, but ultimately when you're a fan of the band, it's like being a fan of a football team — you go through your ups and downs but you never stop loving them."

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE recently signed a worldwide deal with Search And Destroy/Spinefarm Records.

The band's latest album, "Venom", was released in August 2015 via RCA. The CD marked BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE 's first release since the departure of longtime bassist Jason James and addition of Jamie Mathias (formerly of REVOKER).

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE drummer Michael "Moose" Thomas took a temporary leave of absence from the band earlier this year to spend time with his wife, as they awaited the birth of his first child. Filling in for him was Jason Bowld (PITCHSHIFTER, AXEWOUND).
