CALIFORNIA METAL FEST Moves Location

April 21, 2006

The organizers of the first annual California Metal Fest — which is scheduled to take place May 13 and May 14, with a warm-up day May 12 — have issued the following update:

"Due to high advanced ticket sales and the city of Whittier doing everything they can to try and prevent the first annual California Metal Fest from happening in their town, California Metal Fest has been moved to Club 740 in Downtown Los Angeles, located at 740 South Broadway Ave. As you can see from visiting www.740LA.com, this is a much better room to handle such an event with a capacity crowd and we don't have to worry about a small town frowning upon the festival.

"We apologize for having to move it but the city of Whittier has made it very clear they do not want black tshirts flooding their streets. In fact when we approached them yesterday to once again verify their stance on this event happening in Whittier, we asked them, 'Why are you showing us such adversity? You guys know there would be no problems with this at Rome as there have been plenty of shows there that have happened without a single issue, and we fully intend on having police officers on staff the entire weekend.' Jeff Collier, director of Community Development responded, 'Well for one, our Founders Day Celebration is the same weekend as California Metal Fest.' We asked, 'Are you saying that the town of Whittier is not big enough for Metal Fest and your Founders Celebration to happen together?' And he blatantly replied, 'Well, yes.'

"This was the straw that broke the camel's back. We are not going to risk the stability of such an amazing line-up of music because of a redneck mentality like 'This town ain't big enough for the both of us.' We purposely chose Club Rome in Whittier because there is no alcohol allowed and because downtown Whittier is a safe environment where parents can feel comfortable with their kids going. However we are not willing to put the Calfiornia Metal Fest in jeopardy by keeping it in Whittier so we have been forced to move it to Downtown Los Angeles. There will be no alcohol at Club 740 either for this event, and you can rest assured you will witness an amazing lineup of METAL on May 13th and 14th with a safe parking lot right in front of the club. Visit www.californiametalfest.com or www.myspace.com/californiametalfest for more information. All previously purchased tickets will be fully honored and mailed out April 25th."
