CELTIC FROST: 'Monotheist' Enters Swiss Chart At No. 41
June 9, 2006According to Rockdetector.com, CELTIC FROST's comeback album "Monotheist" has given the band a first in their homeland by entering the national Swiss charts at No. 41.
Although known internationally as extreme metal innovators, none of the band's illustrious back catalogue — 1985's "To Mega Therion", 1987's "Into The Pandemonium", the off kilter 1988 offering "Cold Lake" or 1990's "Vanity/Nemesis" — made it into the Swiss Top 100.
Rather more humbly, "Monotheist", produced by HYPOCRISY and PAIN mentor Peter Tägtgren, crept into the French charts at No. 194.
As previously reported, "Monotheist" has sold just under 2,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group's first album in 13 years was released simultaneously in all territories in three different configurations, including a limited-edition digipak containing the bonus track "Temple Of Depression", and a vinyl LP with another bonus title, "Incantation Against You".
CELTIC FROST cancelled their scheduled appearance at the Rock Hard Festival in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on June 3 after mainman Thomas Gabriel Fischer was rushed to the hospital, where "he was diagnosed with a kidney stone that was about to dislocate," according to the group's management. He has since been transferred to a Zurich hospital and is undergoing a kidney operation. "He is adamant that he will perform at Sweden Rock [festival] this coming weekend and also fulfill all other forthcoming festival dates," the management said in a press release.
