CENTURY MEDIA Extends EMI Deal Down Under

April 22, 2009

Lars Brandle of Billboard.biz reports that Century Media has extended its international distribution arrangement with EMI Music with an exclusive deal covering Australasia.

EMI has distributed the indie label in the United States since 1997, and in Europe since 2005 in Europe. Century Media Records was founded in 1989 in 1989 by Robert Kampf and is recognized as one of the world's largest independent metal labels.

Century Media's Australian Label & Marketing Manager Andrew Haug said, "These are exciting times and I look forward the next phase with EMI as we shift in to giving our beloved heavy music fans the music they love and deserve in many forms."

Oliver Withöft, managing director of Century Media, said: "EMI embraces the international hard rock and metal market with a committed and dynamic team. It has a strong local market presence that will help us to build the success of our artists in Australia. We are excited to have closed an important territorial gap for our repertoire."

EMI's senior VP marketing, Australasia and country chairman Australasia Mark Poston said, "Everyone at EMI is giving it the 'rock horns' as Century Media's great catalogue is another addition to our incredible and diverse catalogue of music alongside signings such as IRON MAIDEN, AIRBOURNE and KORN."
