CHICKENFOOT's CHAD SMITH Hands Over Drum Sticks To KENNY ARONOFF (Video)

August 25, 2011

CHICKENFOOT drummer Chad Smith will not tour with the band this fall due to his commitments with his main group, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS. Replacing him on the road will be former JOHN MELLENCAMP drummer Kenny Aronoff.

A video message from Smith announcing his temporary replacement can be seen below.

CHICKENFOOT singer Sammy Hagar said that Aronoff was Smith's personal choice, saying, "Chad picked him because he said Kenny's just like him. He beats his drum set to death. He doesn't play them. He beats them to death. At the end of every show you have to buy a new drum set for these guys. We need that power."

Hagar told Billboard.com, "We tried [Kenny]. He's fucking great. He's really solid, and he's got fire."

CHICKENFOOT's second album, "Chickenfoot III", is scheduled for release in Europe on September 26 via earMUSIC/Edel and in North America one day later via eOne Music in a special 3D designed package.

In addition to Hagar and Smith, CHICKENFOOT features guitarist Joe Satriani and Hagar's fellow ex-VAN HALEN member, bassist Michael Anthony.
