CHTHONIC: Video Trailer For Cover Of JUDAS PRIEST's 'Painkiller' Available

September 17, 2010

Taiwanese metallers CHTHONIC have just released a new digital single, "Painkiller", via Spinefarm Records. A cover of the JUDAS PRIEST classic, CHTHONIC's version of "Painkiller" was made available with "Bloody Waves Of Sorrow" as the bonus element; the latter is a track from the band's current album, "Mirror Of Retribution", but here it is included in its original guise, complete with Taiwanese vocals.

A video trailer for the single can be viewed below.

The idea to record a cover has been discussed within the CHTHONIC ranks since the beginning of the year; the band considered songs from all of their favorite metal bands — including the likes of LED ZEPPELIN, IRON MAIDEN, BLACK SABBATH and DEEP PURPLE — but once drummer Dani Wang had worked out the drum demo for "Painkiller", the decision to go with the JUDAS PRIEST classic was an easy one.

One-time CHTHONIC keyboardist Sandra Lee plus Hena player Su-nong are also involved in the recording, helping the core musicians to unleash the full weight of their Taiwanese metal power.

CHTHONIC will tour the U.K. in November with ARCH ENEMY.

"Mirror of Retribution", the latest album from CHTHONIC, was released in Japan last fall via Howling Bull Records. The Japanese version of the CD contains several bonus songs and a video.

"Mirror of Retribution" was issued in the U.S. on September 15, 2009 via Spinefarm Records.

CHTHONIC (pronounced "Thonic") is:

Freddy Lim - vocals
Doris Yeh - bass
Jesse Liu - guitar
Dani Wang - drums
CJ - piano/synthesizer
