CLOWN: SLIPKNOT Has Another 15 Songs That Didn't Make The Cut For 'We Are Not Your Kind'

July 30, 2019

SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan has told Kerrang! magazine that the creative sessions for the band's new album, "We Are Not Your Kind", resulted in far more material than will make the final product when it is finally released next month.

"Did we know that this was going to be the album? No. No one knows," he said. "There's another 15 songs that didn't make the cut — there's at least seven or eight songs that are recorded, with vocals, that did not make this album. There's so much material, but all that material whittled this down to its anomaly, and to its presentation."

When asked what's going to happen to these other songs, and why they didn't make the cut, Clown responded: "Usually you take your collection of records, and you make an album. So we have a bunch of records, and we have to basically decide which ones of those records can make up a thought process known as 'We Are Not Your Kind'."

"We Are Not Your Kind" will be released on August 9 via Roadrunner. The disc was once again recorded at a Los Angeles studio with producer Greg Fidelman, who engineered and mixed SLIPKNOT's 2004 album "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)" and helmed 2014's ".5: The Gray Chapter".

Guitarist Jim Root stated about "We Are Not Your Kind": "This is most time we've had to write a record, and work stuff out together. One of my inspirations this time around was those artists that recorded full length albums — not just songs. While the industry is moving toward singles, SLIPKNOT wanted to make an album experience, front to back."

SLIPKNOT's "Knotfest Roadshow" North American headline tour with VOLBEAT, GOJIRA and BEHEMOTH launched earlier this month. Produced by Live Nation, the 29-city outing kicked off July 26 in Mountain View, California at Shoreline Amphitheater and will continue through September 8 where it will conclude with a performance at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas.
