CONVERGE Bassist's 'Health Scare' Forces Show Cancelations

June 3, 2011

Massachusetts-based hardcore/metal band CONVERGE has canceled the remaining dates on its current U.S. tour after bassist Nate Newton had a "health scare" during the group's drive from St. Louis to Austin. According to CONVERGE, "We rushed [Nate] to the nearest ER, where he was looked at by some fine Oklahoma doctors. After a night's stay in the hospital and a battery of tests, we were able to have him discharged."

CONVERGE played an abbreviated set at last night's Chaos In Tejas in Austin, Texas, where the band's frontman, Jacob Bannon, took a moment to address Newton's health issues from the stage (see video below).

CONVERGE's latest album, "Axe To Fall", sold 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 163 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on October 20, 2009 through Epitaph Records.

Produced by guitarist Kurt Ballou at his Godcity studios in Salem, Massachusetts, "Axe To Fall" features guest appearances from Steve Brodsky (CAVE IN),Adam McGrath (CAVE IN),J.R. Connors (CAVE IN, DOOMRIDERS),Uffe Cederlund (DISFEAR, ex-ENTOMBED),John Pettibone (THE VOWS, HIMSA),Steve Von Till (NEUROSIS) and Mookie Singerman (GENGHIS TRON).
