COREY TAYLOR Dedicates Song To 'Fallen Brother' PAUL GRAY During San Antonio Concert (Video)
April 9, 2011SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor dedicated the song "Bother" to late SLIPKNOT bassist Paul Gray during last night's (April 8) STONE SOUR concert in San Antonio, Texas on what would have been Gray's 39th birthday.
"Some of you know today is my fallen brother's birthday," Taylor solemnly told the crowd. Taylor collected himself, then added: "I wasn't sure if I was gonna say anything. But I miss him every day. So I'd like to dedicate this song to him."
Jay Nanda of the San Antonio Metal Music Examiner writes in his review of the concert, "With the stage belonging to Taylor and his guitar, the frontman went into 'Bother', pausing a couple of times to wipe tears. When it looked as if he wouldn't be able to make it through the song, the crowd uplifted him with chants of 'Corey, Corey, Corey!'"
Fan-filmed video footage of Taylor's Paul Gray song dedication and "Bother" performance can be viewed below.
Paul Gray was found dead in a hotel room in a Des Moines, Iowa suburb last May at the age of 38 from an overdose of morphine.
For SLIPKNOT's upcoming shows in 2011, the band has asked Donnie Steele to fill in for Gray on bass.
Donnie was the original guitar player in SLIPKNOT and had actually reconnected with Paul in recent years.
Commented the band: "Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family. Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can't think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning. The eight of us are looking forward to being onstage again and honoring Paul's legacy with our families in Europe and Brazil this summer."
