August 6, 2011

SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR frontman dressed as Elvis Presley "won cheers and raves from the crowd" during his poolside concert last night (Friday, August 5) at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to the Las Vegas Sun, Taylor performed a series of unlikely cover tunes, including "Jessie's Girl" by RICK SPRINGFIELD, GREEN DAY's "Basket Case", "Just What I Needed" by THE CARS, NIRVANA's "About a Girl", FLOCK OF SEAGULLS' "I Ran", LITA FORD's "Kiss Me Deadly", BON JOVI's "Livin' on a Prayer", TOM PETTY's "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" (featuring members of HALESTORM),VAN HALEN's "Panama", ALICE IN CHAINS' "We Die Young" and GUNS N' ROSES' "Mr. Brownstone".

Taylor joked with the crowd: "Everyone has been asking if I was going to play my stuff tonight. No way! I'm off the clock tonight!"

Fan-filmed video footage of Corey's performance which was part of the Soundwaves series can be seen below. Photos are available at the Las Vegas Sun web site.

The Soundwaves series highlights artists in the unique and intimate setting of the Hard Rock pools.

In a 2009 interview, Taylor revealed plans to eventually hit studio to record his debut solo album.

"I've never let myself get painted into a corner," he said. "I've refused to accept the fact that I can't make any kind of music I want." He added, "I think it took people a minute to understand that, but now I'm at a point where I can do anything and people will take it seriously."

Taylor claimed that recording a solo LP would give him a chance to write any kind of songs he wanted. He also revealed he had written around 40 to 50 tracks and was in the process of deciding which of them he wanted be featured on the record.

"It's something that I'd like to do purely for myself," Taylor explained. "It's something that I need to release before I can think about moving on to anything else ... In both SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR I'm slightly limited to how I can write and indeed what I can write about. The beauty of doing a solo album is that I can write whatever type of song I want."

When questioned if he was any closer to actually getting in the studio to record the solo CD, Taylor said in a December 201o interview, "There's always a chance of a solo album. But the great thing about a solo album is that you do it on your own time. I'll always have enough material that I can make a solo album in the future, but there's still so much stuff that I want to do right now that it's really my last priority. STONE SOUR is going really good. It's an exciting time for STONE SOUR. I'd rather focus on the things that make the most sense."
