CRADLE OF FILTH Concert Stabbing Update: Charges Against Security Guard Dropped
November 18, 2004A grand jury chose Tuesday (Nov. 16) not to indict a security guard arrested and charged with stabbing two people last week in a fight during a CRADLE OF FILTH concert at Bogart's in Cincinnati, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer.
Police said no other witnesses saw a knife in Donald Germany's hand, nor did anyone see him stab anybody.
Officer Bryant Stewart said it was clear Germany, who works as a bouncer at Bogart's, had been involved in a fight Nov. 8 while customers waited for the band CRADLE OF FILTH to take the stage. Officers found 10 to 20 pieces of Germany's dreadlocks strewn over the floor, said Stewart, who was investigating.
Germany said Wednesday afternoon he didn't want to talk about the incident until he cleared it with his attorney.
The voicemail on his cell phone thanks God: "I don't know about you, but the Lord just helped me through another day. God might as well be my arm the way he held my hand."
Germany told police he had confiscated the knife earlier in the night from a patron entering the bar. He said he put the knife in his pocket and pulled it out later because he was being attacked by a group of people in the bar. The fight started, Germany told police, when he tried to put someone out of the bar for being disorderly.
Stewart said Germany admitted holding the knife above his head but did not remember stabbing anyone. Stewart said the bouncer might not have been charged if Ohio had a law that allowed self-defense as an immediate reason not to charge someone.
The main person still charged in the bar fight is the man most severely hurt in the melee. Chris Alsip, 28, lead singer of the straight-edge hardcore band SUFFOCATE FASTER, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of felonious assault — for allegedly punching Germany in the face. Recovering from surgery for cuts to his torso, he is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
Also charged is Gregory Gonzales, 21, who is accused of misdemeanor assault for allegedly punching someone else in the face. Read more.
