CRADLE OF FILTH Singer Says Break In Recording Sessions Was Best Thing That Could Have Happened
July 25, 2004In a brand-new interview with the U.K.'s Terrorizer magazine, CRADLE OF FILTH frontman Dani Filth spoke about the recording process for the group's sixth full-length album, "Nymphetamine". According to Dani, CRADLE originally intended to spend nine weeks recording for a June release, but when their producer — ANTHRAX guitarist Rob Caggiano — had to tour for five weeks, eight weeks into the session, that timeframe was scuppered. Yet as things turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened, for the band and the record.
"Management and the record company might be looking at it as a bit of a sticking point that's moved the release date back," conceded Dani. "The rest of us kind of thought: this is great! That was probably the first holiday we'd had in the last two years. For a month we totally ignored the record."
They duly returned with a fresh sense of perspective.
"At that point we analyzed the record," explained Dani. "There was a rank outsider — a track that wasn't due for the record — that was hanging around that I really liked, and I made the grim mistake of playing it to Rob one night. He just went mental and said we had to have it on the record! That changed the goal posts somewhat."
CRADLE OF FILTH's new album, "Nymphetamine", is scheduled for a September 28 release through Roadrunner Records. The follow-up to last year's "Damnation and a Day", "Nymphetamine" (roughly translated as the druggish beast-like addiction to beautiful, classical women) was mixed by Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, NAPALM DEATH).
