CURRENTS Sign With RISE RECORDS; Announce New Album 'Our Fates Lie In Tandem'

CURRENTS will release their fourth full-length album, "Our Fates Lie In Tandem", on February 12. Their first full-length collection in nearly four years, the forthcoming album is also their most personal record yet.

"There's some social commentary and a little bit of heartbreak too," CURRENTS vocalist Brian Wille says of the 11-song release. "I brought the wall down, so I could be more personal than ever before. 'Our Fates Lie In Tandem' is not heavy for the sake of being heavy either. We agreed a track doesn't need to be 'a walking breakdown' in order to make an impact. So, you're getting the lows, the highs, and everything in between. There's a reason for each element and meaning behind every word."

"Our Fates Lie In Tandem" also marks CURRENTS' Rise Records debut.

"The legacy of Rise is unmatched," the band says. "The impact of their work has been felt by all of us for as long as we've loved music. We're so excited to work with them on this new era of our band."

Today's release of "Retributioner" offers a first look at the album's thematic and sonic range, examining the cost of holding on to one's principles in a world that rewards those who abandon them. As the band explains, the song "is about how our world smothers the righteous," reflecting a winner-take-all ethos in which success is seen as requiring people to disregard their values.

"We're told that to get anywhere in life you need to abandon your principles and cut through others as they would to you," the band says, "fostering a sense of war-mindedness regarding those we compete with, debate with, and don't agree with. 'Retributioner' seeks to dismantle those ideas, even if it means dismantling the structures and systems perpetuating them."

Chris Wiseman, CURRENTS guitarist and a driving force behind the production of the band's previous full-length albums, produced "Our Fates Lie In Tandem", with additional production by Ricky Armellino and mixing by Jon Dolese (CHELSEA GRIN, CANE HILL).

"Putting this record together has been an intense, multi-year process that has challenged our existing framework of songwriting," the band shares. "We took no shortcuts in building these songs up to be the best and most cohesive of our career. While it wasn't quick or easy to make this album, watching and participating in this project, from demos to the final masters, has been such a satisfying and cathartic experience."

Formed in 2011, the Connecticut-based band has released five EPs and three albums, with their most recent full-length being 2023's "The Death We Seek".
