CYNIC: New Video Interview With PAUL MASVIDAL Available
March 4, 2009Metal Injection has posted a new interview (see video footage below) with lead vocalist/guitarist Paul Masvidal of prog-death legends CYNIC. Paul talks about the band's reunion, the new record, the future of CYNIC, how he stays so calm, changes in the scene between when he left and now, jazz-fusion bands and much more.
On the topic of more music from CYNIC:
"I'm really just trying to stay present and stay in the process, and I can't predict the future but I feel really good about how things are going right now so we'll see. Its not like a for the sake of a reunion record. Its more about staying in the flow and seeing what unfold. The way I see it is we're kind of in a groove and we will keep going."
On the topic of further touring to support their current record, "Traced In Air":
"We intentionally did these two support tours [with MESHUGGAH in the U.S. and OPETH in Europe] but we only did like half the U.S. on this, not even. So we have a lot more touring to do. I think we're going to do a lot of the festival stuff, maybe in the States and in Europe, also trying to get into some headlining dates as well."
"Traced in Air", the new album from CYNIC, was released in North America on November 25 via Season of Mist. The CD's first run is a limited-edition hard cover digipack with the cover artwork embossed to further showcase the beautiful cover by renowned artist Robert Venosa, as well as eight original pieces of art paired with the eight songs found on the album. Venosa created the unmistakable cover and visuals for 1993's groundbreaking "Focus" album. This limited edition also features a poster of the cover art. Also released the same day was the "Traced in Air" collector's box, which was only available for order online and limited to 1,000 copies.
Returning from the "Focus" era for the new eight-song, 35-minute effort are are founding members Masvidal and Sean Reinert (drums) along with Sean Malone (bass),and joining the band in the studio is newcomer Tymon Kruidenier (guitars/growls). The band recorded the effort at a California studio with producer Warren Riker (DOWN, SANTANA).
